Bunzl hosted a supplier conference ("New Horizon") on the 14th of July 2022 at Nottingham University. The event theme was 'Accelerating Growth', and was attended by a variety of Bunzl's senior leaders.
The conference was hugely positive for ZOONO. The brand was well recognised amongst attendees. The event allowed Julian and Jamal to capitalise on existing relationships, resulting in a “top-down buy-in” from the Bunzl team, with ZOONO being recognised as a preferred supplier in the UK market.
Jamal McCleary - Head of Operations – UK and Europe
We are pleased to announce that a detailed trial of ZOONO is now in its 3rd week at one of the UK's largest and most reputable insurance companies. With an estate of 12 large call centre offices and another 20 smaller offices throughout the UK, this is a huge opportunity to showcase the benefits ZOONO can bring to their workplace.
The trial objective is to provide a detailed comparative analysis of ZOONO’s Z-71 Surface Sanitiser compared to standard cleaning products & routines. Then, use such results to showcase the improvement in cleaning standards and the potential opportunity for reduction in their costs. Initial ATP results significantly improve when ZOONO is added to a standard cleaning routine.
Seeing these results has already led the customer to request a separate trial in another of their other large call centres, this time with the focus being on the 24-hour hand sanitiser partnered with the individual surface wipes.
The Packaging Industry Opportunity & How It Started
In 2021, we did a study in Cape Town where we ordered fresh pizza delivery, the service was excellent, and everything looked great – until we did an ATP test on the interior of the packaging and received a reading of 5,555 RLU – so, what does that mean?
0-30 is food safe
31-100 is considered clean
101-200 caution required
This reading was off the scale, meaning that the packaging was severely infected, and this must surely have transferred to the pizza.
This prompted us to start a campaign with the cardboard industry in South Africa, where we are now applying ZOONO to the cardboard packaging as it is being manufactured.
Once cartons are manufactured and delivered to the end user, they may not be kept in the most hygienic storage areas; hence, as we have seen with the earlier pizza box, the readings were off the scale.
It is also worth noting that many cartons are used to transport and export fresh produce worldwide. The dangers here are multiplied as the cartons are placed inside shipping containers which may also be infected with unseen bacteria, mould or fungi.
ZOONO has proven it's efficacy where goods were at sea for 7 weeks, 9 weeks and 15 weeks, respectively, and the products arrived in top condition.
We decided to investigate further. We conducted trials with one of our clients in South Africa, sanitising their cartons and shipping containers. The results were successful, and the same client has now agreed to have their packaging, manufacturing facility, pack house, and shipping containers protected with ZOONO® Z-71 Surface Sanitiser.
Development in the Hotel Industry
ZOONO will begin trials in August 2022 in one of the leading hotel chains in South Africa. The tests will involve an assessment of the current products versus the antimicrobial protection ZOONO provides for up to 30 days on surfaces with only one application.
The textile and garment industry in China is big, exporting around 170 billion (USD) in 2021. And this traditional industry always had some issues, such as mould within their exporting shipments and production lines.
We have partnered with China National Textile and Apparel Council, and have been conducting several tests to see if we could help solve some of the industry issues. Early results are positive, and we are confident that our product can add value to their supply chain and solve some common industry issues.
In the coming months, we will be finalising these tests and assessing the best way to approach this segment with our technology.
The Facts around Monkeypox
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced the rapidly spreading monkeypox outbreak represents a global health emergency. (Reuters, 23 July)
Monkeypox is a viral infection caused by an enveloped virus belonging to the Orthopoxvirus genus in the family Poxviridae. It was discovered in 1958 when two outbreaks of a pox-like disease occurred in colonies of monkeys kept for research in a Danish Lab - hence the name ‘monkeypox’.
Monkeypox virus is transmitted from one person to another by close contact with lesions, body fluids, respiratory droplets and contaminated materials such as bedding. The incubation period is typically between 6 to 13 days. The virus enters the body through broken skin, respiratory tract, or mucous membranes (eyes, nose, or mouth).
The TGA in Australia has advised the surrogate to be used for testing hard surface disinfectants against Monkeypox, which is the Vaccinia virus.
We are pleased to confirm that ZOONO® Z-71 Microbe Shield has been successfully tested against Vaccinia to European standard EN14476. To meet this standard, a log kill of >4 has to be achieved (>99.99% efficacy), and ZOONO Microbe Shield passed this standard in RTU (Ready to Use) form.
